Tour Overview Tour Overview

According to the legend the mythological monster Tifeo was disarmed and imprisoned by Zeus under the island of Ischia. As a testament to his presence various towns of the island carry the name of various parts of the body of the monster, for example "Panza" meaning the stomach. Spend a lovely day on our Ischia tours with la Mortella Gardens and discover this magical "Green island" located in the Gulf of Naples.

Start your guided Ischia tour with a transfer from your accommodation in Sorrento or Naples to the ferry port. It will take around one hour from Naples or Sorrento to reach the island. From a distance, admire Procida - Italy's 2022 capital of culture, as you near the port. Take a picture of the majestic Aragonese Castle standing on a rocky islet and connected with Ischia with a 220 metres long stone bridge. Once you arrive at the port you will enjoy a guided tour of Ischia in a comfortable minivan.

La Mortella Gardens are home to more than 3000 species of plants and an absolute landscape masterpiece. This mediterranean garden was developed since 1956 by the late Susana Walton, the wife of the British composer Sir William Walton. He loved the area around the Gulf of Naples, finding inspiration for his early music. The famous landscape architect provided the design for the garden . La Mortella is divided into two parts: The Valley - the lower garden and The Hill - the terraced upper garden. During your Ischia tour you will have plenty of free time to wander around the pools and fountains and explore the exotic plants in this unique setting. Guests usually get 2-3 hours in the gardens before returning to Naples or Sorrento.

As a valid alternative to this itinerary you can consider arranging a guided Ischia tour visiting the small towns of Casamicciola, Lacco Ameno and Forio, stopping at a Pietratorcia winery including wine tasting and light lunch made of local specialties. This alternative itinerary would also feature the towns of Serrara Fontana, Barano, Buonopane, Piedimonte before returning to the port.
