There have been many renowned literary and artistic greats who found inspiration while enjoying vacation experiences or extended stays in Italy, like British writer D.H. Lawrence who is said to have written some of Lady Chatterley's Lover on the spectacular Amalfi Coast.

Others who have sought rest and stirred their creative genius while on sojourn in Italy include the late British poet Robert Browning, American writer Ernest Hemingway, and English writer Freya Stark. In fact, if you take our Small Group Hill Towns of Veneto Trip you can see Robert Browning Street, Robert Browning House, and Freya Stark house in the village of Asolo. Stark loved the village so much she is laid to rest in a local cemetery.

Today’s biggest celebrities, like those from generations previous, are often sighted enjoying Italy Tours and Italy Vacation Packages or share their experiences of Italian holidays on social media. So where do the modern rich and famous folks go for their Italian getaways?

One of the biggest entertainment stories of the year is the Italian wedding of one-time avowed bachelor George Clooney to Amal Alamuddin in Venice. The paparazzi were plentiful along the canals of ancient Venice as they sought to capture a photo of the happy couple who took a water taxi to tie the knot at a civil ceremony at Venice city hall - not to mention images of their famous guests who included U2 singer Bono Vox and his wife Alison. The Italian coastline is a wonderful place to rest and rejuvenate, something not lost on busy celebrities including pop singer Beyoncé and husband Jay Z, who were photographed strolling around Portofino. Renowned film director Steven Spielberg took his family to enjoy some good food and the sights of Portofino, near the stunning Cinque Terre not far from Florence.

When a fan on Twitter asked singer and DJ Boy George which is his favorite Italian destination he tweeted back, “I love all of it, really. Italy is like a big delicious Pizza!” In April 2014 he was in concert in Milan (any bets that he made time for a little shopping?).

The Eternal City, Rome, was where actor Richard Gere spent some quality time last summer with his son Homer and took photos near the Colosseum. If you want to see the remains of Ancient Rome as well you will love our Small Group Skip the line Colosseum and Ancient Rome Tour (and feel like a VIP getting to skip the line!).

Every fall there are many A-list actors who head to Rome for the Rome Film Festival. Who walked the red carpet this year? Gere returned to Rome for the cinematic event and other actors including Kevin Costner, Benicio Del Toro, and Clive Owen attended.

We at Avventure Bellissime always try to remind people there is so much more to Pisa than the Leaning Tower, but it was fun to see actor Will Smith’s selfie from his holiday in Tuscany with the famous tower behind him. Will Smith couldn’t resist taking a selfie with the Leaning Tower of Pisa in the background during his Tuscan vacation.

Inspired to enjoy a holiday in Italy now, too?
