Classic Papier-mâché mask making (1 mask) & decorating class 2.5 hrs

For a complete experience select a classic course featuring a Venetian papier-mâché mask making class followed by a decoration course. Enjoy a short introduction about the history of Venetian masks. Create your own papier-mâché mask from the plaster mold using the traditional technique. Select your preferred decorating technique choosing either the traditional one or customize it using glitter and other materials. Now your personal mask is ready! At the end of the class you will receive a gift: a copy of "Masks in Venice" book explaining the history of Venetian masks and how they are crafted. This class is designed for adults and children who are at least 11 years old.

Your Venice mask decorating class will start with a short introduction about the various techniques used for creating masks and what they look like at different stages. You will learn how the masks were born and what their meaning is in the Venetian culture, especially "bauta" and "moretta" masks. The mask-maker will now explain all 12 techniques of mask decorating. Each participant will have two masks to decorate (choose from over 60 types of Venetian masks). For the decoration you will use acrylic tempera paint, a variety of natural wax for finishing, and metallic colors like gold, silver, and copper. In the finishing process you will have at disposal different materials including feathers, rhinestones, trimmings, glitter and more. At any stage of decorating if you are not happy with the result your instructor will guide you how to achieve the desired result. Your last choice will consist in selecting the preferred ribbons for your mask which by now will have dried out and you can carry it home with you. This Venetian masks workshop is limited to max 12 people. You can also opt for the shorter class lasting 1.5 hrs and featuring decorating of one mask including feathers and glitter.
