Tour Overview Tour Overview

With its flat land rich in iron soil Puglia is among the most important agricultural regions in Italy. 40% of Italy's extra virgin olive oil is produced here. As in other southern regions "Cucina povera" cuisine is at the basis of local recipes. Apulian dishes tend to be simple and depend on seasonal produce. On our food and wine tour in Puglia discover how Burrata is made and learn all about the production of extra virgin olive oil. At a local wine shop in the heart of Itria Valley taste the best local wine labels.

Start your private Puglia food and wine tour with pick up at your accommodation in Bari. Transfers from other locations are available on request at an extra cost. One of Puglia's most important treasures is olive oil. It's hard to imagine Italian meals without it. Puglia has over 60 million olive trees and is the first region in Italy as far as quantity and quality of olive oil are concerned. Produced since the bronze age this green gold is the main ingredient of Apulian recipes. Visit a local olive oil estate and hear stories about the long tradition and complexity of producing this pillar of Italian cuisine. Walk the beautiful grounds of the estate and enjoy some olive oil tasting!

Would you like to try and twist a knot of mozzarella or two? Your Puglia food tour will stop at a typical dairy farm where a cheesemaker and artisan will demonstrate the art of Burrata making. This delicious creamy cheese is the result of an attempt to minimize food waste in the early 20th century when there were only few cows in the area. You will have a chance to try to be a cheesemaker, too! Enjoy a typical light lunch based on the seasonal produce at the farm.

After lunch you will stop at a little wine shop located in the middle of Itria Valley. Your guide will explain the various types of wine produced in Puglia and of course you will be able to taste the best local labels before being transferred back to your accommodation in Bari.

Puglia tours can be customized to suit your requirements. Select between wine tours and pasta making cooking classes, hiking and cycling in Itria Valley or Salento, sailing in Polignano a Mare, visiting trulli and many more! With all our custom experiences we can organize additional transfers from Bari or Lecce (other destinations on request) to start our tours.

Contact our Sales Team via our "Enquire Now" form and we will be happy to create and fine-tune your Puglia vacations!
