Tour Overview Tour Overview

Turin, the capital of Piedmont region and one of the wealthiest cities in Italy, lies just a one-hour drive from the famous Barolo wine area of Langhe. The birthplace of Italian FIAT automotive company, it is known internationally for the Shroud of Turin, believed to be the original burial cloth of Christ, and the 2006 Winter Olympics.

Our Private Turin Walking Tours will start in Piazza Castello - a large square located behind Turin cathedral. This Piazza, together with the nearby Piazza Reale, is the main area where most of Turin's important Baroque buildings are located, including the Royal Palace and Palazzo Madama. With our expert English-speaking guide you will discuss the origins of the city probably dating back to as early as the Celtic occupation of Piedmont during the first millenium BC. You will learn about the times when the powerful House of Savoy ruled in the city and its lasting impact on the history and architecture of Turin. As you stroll around the streets and the famous porticos our guide will share their knowledge about how Turin became the first capital of unified Italy in 1861 and how the automotive FIAT company was born.

On our Turin guided walking tour you will explore Piazza San Carlo and the surrounding Baroque churches and palazzos. Under the famous arcaded buildings of the square take a look at some of the most high-end shops and historical cafés. Your next stop will be Piazza Solferino - one of the main squares of the city. Your Turin sightseeing tour will also include a stop by one of the cafés to taste "il bicerin" - a local typical hot drink made of espresso, drinking chocolate, and milk served layered in a small glass.

The tour will conclude with panoramic views of the city from the terrace of Mole Antonelliana. The symbol of the city, as often seen on postcards, the Mole with its impressive spire was originally planned to be a synagogue. Today it hosts the National Museum of Cinema. Don't worry about any steps to climb - our tour already includes the tickets for the lift that will take you to the terrace.

Customize your tour: upon request it possible to extend the tour at an extra cost to include also a visit with entrance tickets of the National Museum of Cinema.
