Tour Overview Tour Overview

Puglia, often called "Italy's second Tuscany", is usually known for its delicious food, olive oil, masserie farmhouses and lovely white towns like Alberobello or Ostuni. However, this region is also home to the real pearl of Italy's "heel": Lecce - a magnificent example of Baroque style and the capital of Salento.

Our Private Lecce Walking Tour will start with a walk through the Old Town. With your expert licensed guide you will enter the city through Porta Rudiae and proceed on via Libertini - the most important street in Lecce, full of shops and restaurants as well as examples of Baroque palazzos and magnificent churches. Later we will reach Piazza Duomo - one of the main attractions of Lecce and most beautiful squares in Italy. We will stop by Duomo “Santa M. Assunta” and the Bell Tower. Our Lecce tour will also include a typical artisan "bottega" (shop) with papier-mâché creations.

Passing by the church of Saint Irene we will now arrive at Santa Croce Basilica - a perfect example of Baroque architecture, it boasts an impressive facade. Customize your guided Lecce tour to include also a visit of the church - tickets to be purchased locally. Afterwards, we will proceed to Piazza Sant'Oronzo - the square dedicated to the saint patron of Lecce. This piazza is also home to the Roman Amphitheatre, discovered only recently in early '900s. The amphitheater is the most important testimony of Lupiae, the ancient name of Lecce, Roman era.

These Lecce walking tours will conclude with a walk on the beautiful via Federico D'Aragona street until you reach Porta San Biagio. Our guide will recommend best places where to try local food like a "rustico" for lunch or "espressino" coffee.
