Tour Overview Tour Overview

You will meet your driver directly in Venice near the Tronchetto car park. Driving towards Verona you will enjoy the views of Veneto plains and distant Valpolicella wine hills and vineyards, with our driver-tour escort introducing you to the history of the region. Get ready: your wine tasting tour of Lake Garda is about to begin!

Your first stop will be Sirmione - a holiday resort and a medical treatment center. Dating back to the Roman times this popular destination is known for its Roman Villa ( incorrectly called Grottoes of Catullus) and other patrician houses. It is also home to the "Rocca Scaligera" castle which is one of the main attractions of the Lake. Built by the Scaligeri who were warlords of Verona, and who during their time prior to the Venetian conquest of the mainland ruled most of modern-day Veneto. In this part of our Valpolicella Amarone wine tour you will be immersed in a real poetry of Art and Nature: the landscape that surrounds the Lake varies from the southern tip of Garda that embraces the plains of Veneto and the soft undulating hills of the Bardolino wine region - enjoy stunning views of this biggest Italian Lake during our panoramic stops that we will include in this Lake Garda wine tour.

In the afternoon we'll visit a celebrated wine estate in the Valpolicella wine region, for an in-depth tour of the winery to thoroughly understand the unique methods used to produce the famous Amarone red wine. Wine has been produced in this area since Roman times. Until recently the main wine of this region was the Recioto, a sweet red wine which was particularly popular with the Veronese in days when sugar and sweets were not widely available. The Amarone is sometimes referred to as the failed Recioto, as the fermentation of the sweeter wine is halted to leave sugar to provide the sweetness. You will enjoy a full wine tasting of the most representative wines produced by the estate and a panoramic drive among the wine hills before heading back to Venice. After this experience you will be so happy to think of only one thing: can’t wait to join other wine tasting tours of Lake Garda!
