Tourist Information on the Island of Sant'Erasmo , Venice

The recently restored Maximillian tower dominates the little beach where Venetians traditionally go for an outing and to swim. Dating from the year 1800, this fully restored fortress is an illustrious remnant of the Austrian military presence that once protected the lagoon. The tower was named after Archduke Maximillian who sought refuge in the tower in 1848.
