During our day in the Collio wine area of Friuli , we will visit prestigious wineries that are renowned for both the high quality of their wines and the historical value of their estates. Combined with scenic drives through the delightful countryside and visiting the enchanting village of Cividale , a very special day awaits you .
As with all our wine tours, we tend not to visit too many wineries, but instead spend a longer time in those visited so that you can gain a better understanding of the wines tasted and the procedure of making them. Some of the prestigious wines of this area are the Ribolla, the rare Picolit and the even more rare Pignolo, as well as Cabernet, Tocai, Sauvignon and Pinot Grigio to mention just a few.
The Collio has a bucolic charm, with its rolling hills thickly planted with vineyards, cherry trees and olive groves, all set against the back-drop of the imposing Friulian Alps. After spending time in Venice, you'll enjoy discovering an area where you can feel like being the only tourists around. Enjoying the peace, tranquility and natural beauty this area affords.
Between vineyards we'll drive along scenic back-roads that meander around the lush green hills, through peaceful villages and hamlets, and past the numerous castles that litter the countryside to savour the idyllic charm of this beautiful region.
We'll then visit Cividale Del Friuli , an enchanting and elegant small hill- town in the Natisone Valley , once the Longaboard capital of Italy. Enchanting views , precious frescoed renaissance palaces , remains dating back to roman times, intact medieval buildings will make of this stop a nice interlude between vineyards and a chance to sample some of the local cuisine at one of its restaurants.
