TOUR OF MONUMENTAL ROME - 2-HOURS After completing the visit of Ancient Rome , with an eight passenger vehicle and guide we'll start the 2 last hrs tour of the monumental Rome . At the Bocca della Verita (the mouth of Truth), we'll pause for a photo-stop to view one of Rome's more enchanting monuments. An oval stone tablet with a carved face and open mouth in medieval times it was for a sort of trial by ordeal to see if people were telling the truth. Legend had it that anyone placing their right hand inside the mouth would have their fingers cut-off by the closing stone mouth if they were not telling the truth. We'll then drive around the Circus Maximus where the famous chariot races, immortalized in the Epic "Ben Hur", took place . From the Gianicolo , the city views are superb. Here we will make a photo stop to admire the view of the Eternal city from one of its famous hills . We'll then continue our tour by visiting some of the "must see" sights of Rome , including the imposing Pantheon. One of Rome's most enduring monuments surviving intact from Roman times. The Pantheon can be seen as the embodiment of the highest form of Roman building technology and of its purest architectural taste . At the Trevi Fountain ,the most famous fountain in the world, we'll pause to admire this delightful baroque masterpiece. After listening to the history of this legendary fountain , we'll make our way to the Spanish steps . The Spanish Steps, set at the boundary of the Baroque centre of Rome, was designed to function like a doorway between the openess of the ever-expanding new city, and the "openess of the Ruins of its broken Past", from whose hidden treasuries inspired sensitive artists of Europe to develop their work. Learn about the many artists that used to gather here , the likes of Keats , Wagner and Goethe and after leaving our guide and the rest of the group , pause at one of its cafes' and take in the beauty of the Eternal city at sunset from the top of the Spanmish Steps. |
