MONTALCINO WINE TOUR OF THE BRUNELLO WINE REGION Travelling south from Florence, enjoy a journey off-the-beaten-track to the beautiful Orcia Valley that offers some of the best scenery in Tuscany. The soft rolling hills are punctuated by medieval hill towns and groves of cypresses that create one picture postcard image after the other. Very few tourists pass this way and as we visit the town of Montalcino it will feel as if you have this paradise to yourself. Montalcino enjoys sweeping views of the Valley Orcia, and here and in the surrounding hills we will spend the day touring celebrated vineyards that produce the world famous Brunello wines. At each vineyard you will enjoy a tour of the facilities to learn the secrets behind the production of the Brunello wines of Montalcino. After enjoying a fascinating tour of each vineyard, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, we will enjoy full wine tastings of the Brunello wines of Montalcino. In between, vineyards we offer an optional lunch at an Enoteca (wine bar) in the heart of Medieval Montalcino (approx 25€ p/person). The owner of the restaurant, a local wine expert will provide a lunch of local specialities combined with the local wines so that you can further appreciate the unique qualities of the Brunello wines. Intoxicated by the Brunello wines of Montalcino and the heavenly landscape of the Orcia valley we will pause en route back to Florence at the Abbey of Sant'Antimo that dates back to the 9th century. One of the most famous buildings along the Via Francigena, the Pilgrims road of Medieval times. Here you will have further oppurtunities to capture the scenery on film while you visit this important monument. |
