Broken down into two parts; this SMALL GROUP in-depth tour of Florence consists of a four-hour tour of the historical centre of Florence in the morning which includes ample time at the Accademia to discuss Michelangelo's David. And, in the afternoon, a two-hour tour of the Uffizi where we'll concentrate on the works that gave rise to the Florentine Renaissance so that you can enjoy a new understanding of this incredibly important period of art history.
As you tour the historical centre of Florence we'll see and discuss all the famous landmarks along the way, as well as exploring lesser frequented parts of the city to discover equally important monuments that will enable your local expert guide to weave together the complex
layers of Florence's history to give you a new understanding of how this city & its people gave birth to the Renaissance movement.
At the Palazzo Davanzati, a unique example of a Florentine home. We'll explore some of the rooms of this five story palatial house-tower to see how a family of wealthy wool merchants lived in the rich Florence of the Middle Ages. Discover another masterpiece of Medieval architecture at the church of Orsanmichele where one of the rich guilds of the city created one of the most elegant and artistic centers of the city, where famous Renaissance sculptors competed with each other to decorate the outside of the building.
After the Ponte Vecchio, we'll pass through Roman Florence, Medieval markets & the Jewish Ghetto of Florence to arrive at Cathedral square to admire Brunelleschi's Cupola, Giotto's Bell Tower, Ghiberti's Gates of Paradise and the interior of the Cathedral as we admire some of the greatest works of art that established that famous period of history : the Florentine Reniassance.
Then, we'll visit Accademia museum to see the original statue of David by Michelangelo, an early work by the Genius of
the Renaissance. Nearby is piazza Annunziata, one of the city's most historic piazzas, often missed by the average tourist , where we'll encounter Brunelleschi's Ospedale degli Innocenti and enjoy breathtaking views of the cathedral dome.
In the afternoon, visit the famous Uffizi painting gallery. We'll further explore the reasons which made the rich city of Florence a workshop of creativity as we view paintings by great artists like Giotto, Leonardo, Botticelli and Michelangelo. We end our tour on the picturesque terrace of the Uffizi overlooking the beautiful piazza Signoria
